Charles Rennie Mackintosh..although he has become a brand now ..i don't let that deter  me  from rating  his work  .. maybe a good example of observing and working with nature and applying to design...i recently read an article about how his work was received on the continent during a show that included works by contempories like Kokoschka...he was well received maybe like a  Scottish Secessionist

Just a fantastic Painting..Gustav Courbet "Juliette"..i have tried to copy this painting..and in so doing  learned a heck of a lot..it is real proof that the eye takes in detail in an instant .. the yellow stripes travelling over folds and catching the light ..the subtlety of the portrait and capturing the personality of juliette is exquisite..One gains a closer understand of the artist from trying to emulate .. Note also the use of a Camera Obscura device to help the drawing..technically as good as oil painting gets.
