sketches in Irish Lakeland April 2012

Ireland..Loch Bridget ,County Claire.
Oil on Canvas Board.Apr 2012

I had really wanted to sketch outdoors and visiting this area of Ireland gave me the perfect opportunity.I had feared feeling like a bit of a plonker.Sitting there with my easle and brushes and my shyness of the resulting work, would be too much to make me rush and not do it.But i am now quite pleased that i did make a few attempts. This is a couple of hours work but goodness me, capturing the light in landscape is not easy and all the stuff we learnt about the impressionists and outdoors painters is so true..the composition changes so much right there and decision making is paramount.

The Lios-en or Lishen..O'briens Bridge..County Claire.Ireland.
Pencil Sketch.Apr.2012.

Looking across the river Shannon, this rise of trees caught my eye in the early morning light..a couple of local ladies passing told me that it was a small cemetery, first used to bury famine victims in the 19th century.Called the Lishen...
The Lios-en or Lischen.O'Briens Bridge..County Claire .Ireland.
Oil on Canvas.April 2012.Work in progress.

As above outdoors "at the throat" painting...and now i need to work on it back at home ..it needs perspective and shadows and more light .i drawing above should give me that information and not least the allure and impression of the place is still in my heart and mind....but i am pleased with it as an exercise.
